TEHRAN (IQNA) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri condemned a recent deadly attack by Daesh targeting a mosque in Afghanistan and said Takfiri terrorism continues to threaten the Islamic Ummah (community).

In a message released on Monday, the top general said the terrorist crime committed at a mosque in Afghanistan’s Kunduz that led to the martyrdom of scores of worshippers showed once again that Takfiri terrorism, which has been created in the think tanks of the arrogant powers and world Zionism, keeps targeting the Muslim Ummah.

He said the crime also demonstrated the need for unity, security and stability in Muslim countries, especially in Afghanistan.

It is expected that the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan will lead to cleansing the country of the mercenary terrorists and the return of security and peace to Afghanistan, he added.

Major General Baqeri also called for those who plotted and perpetrated the brutal terrorist attack to be brought to justice and measures be taken to prevent recurrence of such tragedies.

Daesh terrorists attacked the mosque in the northern city of Kunduz on Friday in a suicide bombing while people were holding Friday prayers. Some 100 people have lost their lives and the death toll is expected to rise as some of the injured are in critical conditions.

Since the Taliban took power in Afghanistan, the Daesh’s branch in the country has ramped up attacks.
